harassment drives people away from Nostr and deters them from recommending it to others. If we don't provide better tools for users to protect themselves from this harassment, they'll leave and find social spaces where they feel safe.
Discussion
I've not seen any harrasment on Nostr... maybe instead of hiding it with censorship tools, we should be highlighting it and calling it out.
Maybe we can drive it out instead.
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, very prominent npubs have left because of it. Moderation and curation is not censorship. You can't convince bad actors to stop being toxic.
I was just thinking out loud, but moderating may not be good enough, it is a chasing game, whereas calling it out is what will likely change culture and provide support around the spaces where this happens.
Don't focus on the "I don't see it" part, I didn't deny it was happening.
Just keep mercilessly, RELIGIOUSLY muting abusers = destroys their WOT score fairly instantly ... and teach people how to filter (backend their app) ... anyone with a negative (or just 0 or low) WOT score ... problem(s) all solved.
Free speech (a granted human right) is a feature not a bug.
People should do some psychotherapy if the speech of others bothers them.
Wrong; I'm a specialist in this subject (#cybertorture; the worst forms of harassment etc) ... Nostr's WOT is the solution to those problems (I wrote it up as such for #targetedindividuals). Teach them how to use WOT. ;) TIA.
