worth mentioning, #emmanuelmacron, if new caledonia does not accept a sensible path to sovereignty sponsored by french tax dollars, they are not serious. immediate sovereignty renders them without an economy, no support, and would render them prey to a dozen predatory nations - not to mention corporate exploitation (which is already the root problem of the standoff anyway). i am in favor of sovereignty. this is an excellent deal, to the benefit of the indigenous and local populations, and protects the transition from destabilisation. they are ridiculous if they refuse. if you need me to repost the policy work for this, let me know.
