I have a total of 3 firearms and I've become very good at running and maintaining them.

- EDC: Sig P365XL

- Warbelt/nightstand: Glock 17 MOS Gen 5

- Rifle: Q Honey Badger SD

I don't recommend going deep into the prepper or gun guy scene; it's a mostly a time suck that dilutes your focus elsewhere.

Instead, get just the basics and become dangerously comfortable with them. Depth not breadth. Not here.

100%. It's a tool, get good at using it, then turn your attention to more important things.

I dig my p365 too

Itโ€™s also so expensive. I need a rifle and then Iโ€™m good

Yeah but once you dial on protection /survival for your family it basically stays dialed in. A good rifle and pistol can last a lifetime if maintained /parts swapped as needed. That's the plan, Stan.

For sure, weโ€™re on the same page! Iโ€™ve got two handguns, waiting for the right opportunity to get a rifle.

Go far, stay long, see deep.

Any suggestions on where to start? I have no experience

I think the glock is the best pistol to learn on. Look for classes at your local gun range. They probably will let you rent equipment. Always start with developing the skill and avoid collecting gear.

Thank you. Nothing more fiat than collecting gear lol

Love my glock 19

22lr rifle or revolver. Ammo is cheap and recoil is nonexistent. Good to practice the fundamentals.

Range day pending. Glad to see you're taking care of yourself.

Diminishing returns after you get something to carry in public and something to defend your home with. Save your money and stack sats

Exactly. Most guys are 'keeping up with the jones' to basically earn cool points in that subculture. Not interested in that.

This is really all the firearms you need. I do think itโ€™s important to finish the kit. You should eventually have a chest rig + plates, a go bag that is ready for a 3 day trek, a small stockpile of ammunition, a ballistic helmet, and some form of night vision.

As for night vision, I think the cheap digital versions should be avoided. Absolute cheapest NVG you should buy in my opinion is a single tube PVS-14, around $4,000. The issue with night vision is that the new thermal hybrid night vision is basically unstoppable. You basically canโ€™t hide from it. You can get pretty good thermal hybrids (overlays the thermal image over the top of the analog night vision) for not much more than a dual tube PVS-14 setup.

Something like the Arkayne RENV-B is around $9,000-12,000 depending on which image intensifier tubes you choose. Itโ€™s a dual tube night vision with a thermal imager attached to one of the tubes. It overlays the thermal image over the night vision. So the thermal view has a bit of a latency, unlike the analog night vision, but itโ€™s worth it.

It may be tough to justify spending that much on night vision you will probably never use unless you take it hunting, but with thermal night vision, you become a hyperpredator. You become like a mage in elder scrolls using detect life

Mostly there. Slowly getting training done. Having fun with it and not overextending myself.

You can thank the gun guys for their prepping when they arm the community militias who will be defending the homeland.

My point is that newbs should focus on developing skills before collecting too much gear.

Sound advice ๐Ÿซก

What are your thoughts on optics for EDC pistol? When deciding on a platform is that something to consider? I'd also be interested in your preferred concealed carry position, if you don't mind sharing? It is time for me to start prioritizing this more.

Too many putting the cart before the horse. Learn to shoot with sights. Put a thousand hours in with sights. Then try a red dot.

Planning to acquire the Ruger LCP II in .22 LR for the wife's carry pistol.

The gun is small enough for her to actually carry in real life every day, whether in a belly band, in a pocket, or in an off body bag.

It's an ideal rig for women: light racking action, low recoil, and multiple redundant safeties, including a physical switch.

The goal is to develop her comfort and proficiency in shooting and carry systems so that she always has something on hand when I am not present.

An extra mag and a slim tourniquet are natural extensions to the system that can be layered in over time.

It's not about the "best", it's about training on the basics and developing a system that won't be left at home no matter what.

Same. They have the coolest toys when it comes to guns

Whatโ€™s a good place to start for someone like me who has never used or really handled a firearm? Iโ€™m not looking to take on the army, just general security for $10 wrench attacks ๐Ÿ˜‰

Find classes at your local range for handgun use. Develop some proficiency, then get a nightstand gun. Learn to dry fire. Drill your house. Then you're off.

Heard a good piece of defense advice. Get the family all in one room, get behind bed, duck with gun aimed at door and using bed as arm rest. Hold down and call for assistance. Seems more practical?

Sure. Good basic house stuff is a reasonable starting place.

I would say a hunting rifle and/or shotgun should be added to that.

Do you have a training regimen that you follow? Dry fire practice daily?

Agreed. I have a couple guns, but don't need an armory.

Don't need don't want.

Would like to do some teaching for Bitcoiners?

Some cool folks will gather up at Lake Satoshi, Michigan in August next year

How you like the honey badger?

My typical #EDC

annotated version for educational purposes?

I can do that.

Here you go!

The basics, tried and tested (trusted). Glock 26, G-Code Incog appendix holster, spare mag, Fenix LD12 flashlight ITS Tactical RITR notebook, CountyComm Embassy Pen, Prometheus Ocean Diver #002 (I designed this watch), Serekit pouch, Emerson CQC7 tanto, ITS Tactical challenge coin.

Thanks ๐Ÿ’ช

What's on the top right?

It's a micro #sere pouch I made from some nylon webbing. It holds a bunch of tiny tools - lock picks, shims, compass, diamond saw, etc. It is always with me unless I'm in a non-permissive environment, then I have to improvise.

I live in Brazil, here buying a gun is horrible expensive, and you can't even carry :sadyes_sm:

Get it while you still can bro.

I like the optics on your sig. I currently have a Browning BAR semi auto 30-06 and I think that I'm going to try to trade it for a similar setup. I inherited it and thought I'd hunt with it but it's a very high power rifle and I really want a handgun.
