Lutnick said this money was going to be a straight handout under the last govt. At least now taxpayers get some equity upside instead of just footing the bill.

The US only has money it takes. That's how the system works right now. It's involuntary. We all know that.
It spends more than it steals directly. Inflation. Nothing new.
Now they are "buying" private property with theft of private property. This is borderline nationalization. They've done it before, but it's being normalized.

I don’t think the U.S. government should own any public or private company. And we should not cheer this.

Lutnicks interview about the sovereign wealth fund where he held up the example of profiteering off the covid vaccine was a very poor example. In general I’d be in favour of a well executed sovereign wealth strategy with strategic equity positions to drive real growth in areas where the US has been out manoeuvred, ie critical metals and chip production. But with the balance sheet deep in the shitter, this just feels like crony capitalism via the money printer. Yuk.
