Nostr, BlueSky, and Twitter takeover all kicked off around the same time, promising free speech.

But here's where we stand:

BlueSky? A censorship disaster-worse than Facebook and Tumblr combined.

X (Twitter)? Musk's "free speech" pledge? It's in total shambles. If you still believe in it, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Only Nostr has stayed true to its mission. It's the last real free speech alternative. If that's what brought you here, congrats-you made the right choice.

👏 because it’s the only decentralized system

Also Nostr gets better and slicker every time I use it.

The other two...not so much.

Well said!!!! 🤜🏻🤛🏻

It all comes down to the root of the fact NOSTR is decentralised. I’m so excited to be alive in this day and age. Can’t wait for all the BS to be removed over the next decade and raw information to come out. Hopefully it reduces the level of sheep in the world brainwashed by legacy media.

Gab is also a free speech platform. As far as I know they've never bowed down to any censorship request.

proprietary

The last time I checked they were open source but maybe something has changed

I remember they blocked all Israeli IPs a while back for too much "coordinated spam". Not sure if that's still the case though.

Interesting, I didn't know about that

There is censorship on gab when it comes to adult+18.

I was following this group +18 and they deleted it. They are against +18 content as they are a Christian based values site. Other than that there is almost no censorship.

If you consider pornography to be speech then yes, there's censorship

Seeing people being killed is ok but seeing people made is bad .

That doesn't matter.

If there is a button that allows censorship then it will be pressed, now or in 10 years, it doesn't matter.

Even if not pressed, its mere existence is an undeniable fact that casts a wide shadow on eveeyone in the same way nukes dont need to be launched for them to be active players in geopolitics.

You're right. A censorship-proof protocol is better than even the strongest human will.

I think we can all agree with this. USA was founded with the principle of being the smallest government... It is now the largest. If there's a way, corruption will seep in. NOSTR only.

They *CAN* censor. Thats the problem.

but can they?

To be honest I don't know

that's the only part that matters

You forgot truth social. Even truth social I was recently banned then unbanned. They have all kinds of trigger words and they use AI. There is censorship on all of them except nostr so far.

I've been censored on all of them since the beginning and X is full bots and trash profiles.

Gab has been okay, but the platform is garbage tech and the users are a brain drain.

It’s wild because Twitter is all people being extra racist, clinically stupid, and like actual, sometimes full length, pornography in the name of “free speech” and yet here on Nostr it’s people being chill and nice to eachother, maybe perhaps because noone here has to “prove” that we have free speech by being edgelord provocateurs.

native free speech

This is good, but the tradeoff to being censorship resistant is lack of spam resistance. Nostr is still very vulnerable to spam attacks.

Nostr, the place we talk about how great nostr is 🧡

What I love about #nostr is how clear the value proposition is against these other platforms that have to constantly defend, rationalize and backtrack. #nostr is consistent and a beacon of what free speech and exchange can look like at scale

Bluesky has in Norway almost reached the level of Xwitter in just a couple of months (7%). Quite impressive, but maybe not surprising. Many Norwegians were provoked by Musk supporting Trump, since the majority of us are socialists (in US terms). Facebook and Snapchat are still the largest social media, because normies here really don’t care if they are surveilled and used by big corp. And we blindly trust our government.

#norgstr ⬆️

#noregstr

Eg trudde med gjekk for #norgstr ??

Sjølv nyttar eg båe mål, så #noregstr kan eg òg leva med. Me må i alle fall einast før dei store massane kjem.

Eg òg! Men det er så mange sovereigns! 😂🥳

Burde hatt en tag som heter #spørnorgstr

For norske spm 😂

#NOSTR ONLY!

interesting, need to get you all on nostr

Nostr has become a sesspool of Bitcoin to the point where it creeps non-bitcoin people out and make it unattractive.

I am here because im a techie and love to be up to date on things and never really liked the Fediverse and didn't discover Bluesky before Nostr. o.o

That said, you aren't wrong mind you. I'd just like to add viewpoints to this.

That’s because bitcoiners literally built this place. If that “turns you off” then maybe go find a different group that actually cares about free speech and building actually censorship resistant tools instead of larping about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Btw, I’m not saying you’re larping, I was meaning the “other groups” that don’t actually build for resiliency and censorship resistance, but only pretend to.

I wanted to clarify just in case it was misunderstood.

Thank you for the clarification; ngl, that was needed. x)

My gripe is that there is a drive and stride to simplify the onboarding process and bring in more users as well as broaden the audience. But in the end, the only people attracted to this place here are bitcoiners - not even neccessarily because of the freedom tech...which I find unfortunate.

This has led Nostr to be a really well built platforms (little issues aside; Primal still can't post a note with ctrl/alt+enter for crying out loud xD) but only so little people using it - and should someone new join, they are quickly driven off.

I introduced two people to nostr. One of them is just somewhat lazy and not too big into SNS in general. The other one was a furry and got his ass bullied within 5 minutes of posting his artwork. Because they're a furry. And by whom? A Bitcoiner. xD

I literally can not invite people here from other fandoms or communities, simply because they will not have a room here. o.o

I like how nostr is a protocol. So there are more features than all of them.

Pretty much.

Aside from that, it's freaking amazing outside of that as well.

What started of as 'free speech twitter' is now 'yea, build whatever you want on it'. There are now:

- Quick social posts (like: twitter)

- Quick media posts (like: instagram)

- Forums (like: reddit)

- Job listings (job sites)

- Stores/marketplaces (Shopify)

- Video posting/watching (youtube)

- Streaming (twitch)

- Blog posting (Medium)

- Website creation (wordpress)

- Funding (kickstarter)

- Creator subscription (Patreon)

- Game mods (moddb)

- Website domain

- git and ui/ux for it (github)

- File hosting (google drive)

- Document signing (docu sign)

- Music hosting/listening (Spotify)

- Some hookups with games

- a lot more that i forgot or don't know

It's absolutely amazing =3
