A couple more beginner tips:

1) Stand directly facing a wall. The tendency to throw balls outward and then start chasing them forward is strong. This will help break that.

2) Height of throw is important when beginning. Try throwing just above your head. High enough to give yourself time to react but also keep the ball and your hands all in peripheral vision.
