Great, I only want to relay monetary transactions in my mempool because I'm not interested in helping spam get mined. As "my own bank" I can decide what spam is to me by setting the datacarriersize option to a reasonable limit. One node may not make much difference but if enough others share my point of view, it might disincentivize would be spammers from polluting the blockchain with monkey jpegs, or worse.
