All hormones and neurotransmitters in the body are directly controlled through full spectrum sunlight into the eyes peripheral during the day

Sunglasses in 99% of scenarios are a net negative because they go directly against the first principles of evolutionary circadian biology

There is no argument to be made for the use of sunglasses outside of active glare

The optometrists and ophthalmologists who try to push this narrative around UV ocular damage are out of their depth. They don’t know anything about circadian mechanisms, nor how light relates to a systems view of biology

What about looking cool?

You look cooler when you show off your eyes, the jewels of the Universe

You're right 💯

Just don’t wear sunglasses around sunrise and sundown. The idea that wearing sunglasses when the sun is at its apex in the summer is somehow harmful is retarded.

I've stopped wearing sunglasses altogether. It's remarkable how much you start to adapt to the sunlight when you just let it in. Pretty sure the "don't look directly at the sun" narrative is false too but U don't have any information to back that up at the moment.

I haven’t worn sunglasses in over 20 years.

Maybe update your profile pic to reflect that btw 😁

Yeah I guess that's a little confusing. That's more of a look than an accurate reflection of reality.

In kindergarten the caregiver said don't look at the sun. I stared at the sun lots. But today my eyesight is shit.

Stopped using sunglasses a good while ago, now realizing I can do with my (low) prescription glasses for computer work 😳

How much sunlight is needed for the body to get the necessary signal to regulate hormones and neurotransmitters?

This 99% statistic assumes people walk out of their house with sunglasses on and don’t take them off until it’s dark.

Realistically people get direct sunlight exposure in the eyes in the morning and afternoon, but choose to use sunglasses during the middle of the day to prevent negative side effects such as pterygium.

By all means if you see people wearing sunglasses during sunrise and sundown educate them. But I think you’ll find that is rare.

At least 10-15 minutes of both sunrise and UV-A rise are my rule of thumbs. I see a lot of people wearing sunglasses during the AM. It’s a major problem
