Our final film is “The Dickson Experimental Sound Film” (1894) which was made for Thomas Edison's kinetophone-a prototype combination of the kinetoscope and phonograph. It was also known as “The Gay Brothers” prior to the Hays Code

Sadly, Tom Rubnitz, Thom L. Higgins and Nick Elliot (no picture available) all passed due to AIDS in the early 1990s (Elliot in 1990, Rubnitz in 1992, Higgins in 1994) but their spirit of determination to be heard and their art live on.

And now is the part of “Flaming Ears” where we… dance!

I believe there are some snails that are poisonous to ingest so don’t go eating just any random snail you find… or y’know doing most of the things shown in this film

And now our feature presentation: “Flaming Ears” (1992). An Austrian experimental, lesbian, science fiction film directed by and starring A. Hans Scheirl, Ursula Pürrer, and Dietmar Schipek. It does have english subtitles.

Just a head’s up: “Made for TV” (1984) and “Flaming Ears” (1992) both use some strobing so if, like me, you’re sensitive to that please watch with caution.

Our next piece is “Made for TV”, a collaboration by the late East Villiage artist and AIDS activist Tom Rubnitz and performer & artist Ann Magnuson was shown on PBS’s “Alive From Off-Center”

First up is Eadweard Muybridge's Plate 444 AKA “The Kiss” (1882) which was the first time that a kiss was documented over time through photography/film. Due to Victorian era taboos he was not able to photograph men and women naked together and thus: “The Kiss”
