Yeah… this is gonna get pretty catholic in some parts because the film satirizes & criticizes the hypocrisy of the values of the church and general social norms. The Church and members of the French extreme right wing literally attacked the film’s screenings and destroyed art by surrealists Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Man Ray, etc and the head of the police banned the film from being screened.
