The result was an insecure setup where bitgo blindly signed any bitfinex customer withdrawal request without additional authorization, by design.
An extremely insecure setup that could have been easily compromised through effective social engineering. 
The setup was not designed with security in mind, but rather with regulatory arbitrage in mind: at the time bitfinex was fighting with the US Gov about their lack of financial compliance and this was an attempt to say "we do not hold customer funds so we do not have to comply."
The bitfinex hack in 2016 was a special beast:
They were not using the typical hot/cold storage setup most exchanges use but rather had a novel wallet setup where each user had their own separate multisig wallet, both bitfinex and bitgo held keys and in some cases so did users.

It is worth noting that @tallycoinapp has a feature that provides a new address for each donation which would help mitigate this concern but the team running this particular fundraiser do not have it enabled.

This type of information coupled with the intimate personal identity info required to use regulated bitcoin services (KYC/AML) may be used to target supporters for political persecution going forward. 
If you donate directly from a regulated bitcoin exchange to the @HonkHonkHodl fundraiser the exchange will know you did so because they are using a fixed reused address.
Consider using coinjoin or lightning when donating to mitigate this privacy concern. 
Content censorship risk comes from two main directions:
1) publisher/platform (particularly if there is an exclusive relationship)
2) funding/sponsors/ads
Self hosting your content, leveraging multiple distribution channels, and direct audience funding using bitcoin fixes this.
