As someone who studied very hard and didn't make many friends in school, I feel that the other things one learns at school - sharing, cooperation, being competitive but not vengeful, and also emotional intelligence to read others feelings is more important than math or chemistry or biology.
And while I don't know much about dating, I think it's a good way to learn about oneself and relationships and boundaries.
