mRNA experimental therapies, lol - even if we never get a good vaccine from mRNA there are cardiovascular, cancer immunotherapy and rare disease treatments in the pipeline. Yes, nothing should have or should be pushed into the public the way that it was (and really not just for mRNA but all of the covid vaccines) but there will ultimately be benefits to this tech even if it's much narrower than they had hoped

nano weapons - I would prefer an individual be targeted rather than say, a hospital be blown up. Nanotech provides better building materials, medical technology. Future energy tech like much more efficient solar panels and solid state batteries rely on nanotech.

data trafficking - This isn't technology. Yes, people misuse data but this theft of personal information has been going on since before digitisation. Identity theft was mentioned in the bible. Increased data theft is a consequence of the age of big data but this information has been used anonymously for important research into human behaviour that we wouldn't otherwise have because people lie about themselves so much. You can *mostly* avoid data trafficking outside of information you are required to provide to the govt, and really becomes an issue of their complete incompetence and the criminality of their bureaucracy along with their unwillingness to admit it.

Nuclear bombs - Firebombing cities was much more devastating but less demoralising than nuking them. Nuclear power, nuclear medicine, nuclear smoke alarms, nuclear illumination (exit signs, airfield runway signs etc during blackouts) are all positive tech that came from this.

mind readers - the guy with the first neuralink brain chip seems to be pretty happy with his. Would I get one as a non quadriplegic? No, but I'm glad the tech exists for him.

spywares - This relates back to the data trafficking. Just because malware exists, it doesn't make software a net negative. We can only have this conversation in a world where sw exists and we choose to have it on an open, censorship resistant platform that can easily be scraped for analysis.

vapers - I might be misunderstanding but you mean like vape pens? I've seen suggestions that vaping carries less than 5% the cancer risk of smoking. While other tech like nicotine gum and ptaches and sprays may be even safer, vaping better matches the existing habit so if everyone switched from cigarettes to vapes it would almost certainly be a net benefit.

meta - the company? Yeah companies are amoral, particularly in the US where there is legal precedent that says companies are to maximise shareholder value as their primary consideration. It should be up to govts to regulate them and the failure to do so is a regulatory and enforcement issue.

Technological advances have been and will continue to be the source of human flourishing. Change my mind.

It seems to me that the striking down of the 1984 Chevron doctrine by the supreme count may help to curtail the rampant corporate regulatory capture by corporate interests our country has been experiencing. The process may be painful in the short term, but I suspect the long term effects will be positive for the governed populace.
