Justice does not mean punishing people for their mistakes or taking revenge. Justice means helping people not to commit serious mistakes that endanger other people's lives and, if they have already done so, making people aware of their mistakes and helping them to avoid them in the future. Punishment and revenge are generally an outdated concept. Revenge never had and never will have a raison d'être, and punishment is a concept that no longer corresponds to the evolutionary stage of development of the human species.
Punishment and revenge only address the symptoms of a problem, not the cause. Punishing a dog or a cat for defecating in your living room is pointless, but you can teach them to do so when appropriate. The human species is no different from other creatures in this respect.
