Joan of Arc with snowshoes as angel wings.

It gets crazier with hierarchical key determination. A wallet ‘balance’ is the sum of seemingly random UTXOs.

Fakery and fuckery has been going on since the dawn of civilization. #CBDC and #AI are nothing new. For the first in civilization we can do something new with #nostr

This is about as Europe as North America gets.

“The most common types of text forged in the Middle Ages were charters conveying or confirming legal rights, particularly of liberty, immunity and exemption.”

Road trip to Quebec City. Spouse is driving. I’m catching up on my deep reading.

I am in the process of creating a #nostr #safebox daemon that can run as a separate process to generate NUT-18 payment requests and accept payments via NIP-17.

Excited about this because the daemon will almost be like a lightning node but instead uses mints and relays as the common infrastructure.

Imagine how different things would be if we had #nostr at the end of the First Millennium.

Most everything was faked back then. Shocking but true.

During medieval times, forgery was the main line of business for most monks producing charters and diplomas because it wasn’t about truth but rather what was accorded in God’s plans, not what was attested by prior documents.

The point is this - for the first time in history with #nostr we now have the sovereign power to combat fakery.

"100 proof" refers to the strength of an alcoholic beverage. In the United States, the proof system measures the alcohol content of spirits. The proof number is double the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV). So, 100 proof means the beverage is 50% alcohol by volume. This system originated in the 18th century when alcohol was tested for its strength by mixing it with gunpowder and seeing if it would ignite. If it did, it was considered "proof" that the alcohol was strong enough.

In many other countries, ABV is used directly, without the proof system.

I still find it kinda NUTS that I can download a binary executable and immediately turn any Linux machine into an ecash machine.

Experimental binaries here:

Brisket (14 lbs) for the barbecue today.

I am pinching myself on how NUTS (pardon the pun) this is. Every #nostr #safebox instance becomes its own payment, clearing and settlement engine. A #safebox can send ecash directly to any other #safebox, it can receive ecash, swap it for new tokens or clear out the funds to any lightning invoice or address.

All of the data (wallet state, proofs, etc.) are stored, encrypted in relays and can be replicated, if a relay becomes adversarial or unreliable.

I’ve also implemented the storage and sharing of private data, and am thinking of adding the ability to store medical data (prescriptions, etc.).

When this prototype is stabilized, I am planning to do another reference implementation (likely Go) and create a very minimal Android/iOS app that can interface to the wallet component.

IMHO, the social contract with the major platform providers is completely broken. Time for a change.

You won’t be disappointed.
