Unlike fiat currencies that can be printed endlessly, Bitcoin has a hard supply cap—only 21 million BTC will ever exist.

This fixed limit is one of Bitcoin’s most powerful features. But what ensures that this supply stays under control?

The answer: The Halving.

In April 2024, Bitcoin underwent its 4th halving, cutting the block reward from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC. These scheduled events occur roughly every four years and reduce the rate at which new Bitcoin is created.

Each halving makes Bitcoin more scarce—slowing down new supply while demand continues to grow. It’s a simple but powerful mechanism built into Bitcoin’s code.
