Okay cool! I’ve only ever inoculated char right before use otherwise I just add it to compost piles or worm bins. I am looking forward to starting my own microscopy journey
Do you store inoculated biochar for a while? I’m wondering if anyone has done microscopy work to see how microbial populations maintain in inoculated char over time
This is a great wholesale nursery in Michigan I just found out about from nostr:npub1f2p8754drsmjltdqdf57g7zuexz9u7fvhdk4xpq3cm8z02tvaa7s98wt7n

That does seem to match the picture I took. Thanks for the recommendation on the app!
I was nervous about this compost pile because the soiled chicken bedding I got from a friend was way more carbon heavy than the smell let on. However after just flipping it I see it’s teeming with life. Although it may be colder than an 18 day pile I have a feeling it will turn out to be some great compost.

Today I found a Giant sabre comb horn cranefly in my yard near a compost pile that is very woody and being left to age. I use an app called picture insect to identify any unknown insects I find on my property and learn more about there role in my ecosystem. This Giant Sabre comb horn cranefly aids in the detrital decomposition process and feeds on rotting wood as well as fungus, so it makes sense that I found an adult near the aging compost.

Thought I was cheating the system by buying food plot seed mix instead of ordering cover crop seed mix online. I completely failed to realize I was buying 4.5lbs of seed with a seeding rate of 18lbs per acre instead of 10lbs of seed with a seeding rate of 60lbs per acre. Needless to say my cover crop will not cover my whole 1/6 acre garden this fall.
Check your seeding rates folks.

I wish my neighbors dropped off fresh crab, although it would be confusing living in Michigan.

Have you used chickory in a garden area? I’ve heard good things but it seems to be perennial and I’m worried it will cause problems with my garden plantings and dreams of market gardening
have you heard of biologist Jason Snavely? look at what he mixing up, seed wise. https://droptineseed.com/
I have not tried his products yet, but I will be on property I'm acquiring. I've been listening to his podcast and he's had a handful of some big brains talking soil health. check it out.
I’ll have to check that out. Thank you!
I do have some char made along with 2 compost piles and 2 very active worm bins. Hoping to jack up soil biology and fertility in the next year
My youngest daughter was just born on Wednesday the 28th. Praise God for a healthy baby and another successful home birth.

What changes have you noticed from using this type of cover crop? I have extremely sandy soil so I’m hoping to build better structure and aggregation
Any recommendations for forb heavy cover crop mixes? Looking to cover about a tenth of an acre. Thinking about using cool season soil builder from greencover.com
