It is good for preventing spam as:
1. it requires manual step to add relay
2. It requires payments spammers will be reluctant to pay to create many accounts
This is assuming that you gradually remove spammers' relay nodes and add paid relay nodes.

Just when I was about to complain about spam, I saw the paid relay services. I started checking spammers' relays and removed them.
Next step is adding couple more paid relays to get quality posts only.
Ok, hitting back button displayed paid and expired in the same UI. I will try setting up my relay later, I can contribute to the fiatjaf relayer. Do you know any other paid relay projects?
