Hawk Tuah recently went viral for her rant about Bitcoiners not running their own nodes.

“Using a Bitcoin wallet without connecting it to your own node may seem convenient, but it comes at a significant cost to your privacy and security. Every transaction made through someone else’s node exposes your metadata, including your IP address and balances, which can be tracked, analyzed, and potentially exploited by corporations or state actors."

She adds, "By running your own node, you ensure that your activity remains private and that you’re directly contributing to the resilience and robustness of the entire Bitcoin network.”

I haven’t told this story to many people.

On the evening of September 10th, 2001, I was standing with a friend in the plaza of the World Trade Center, looking up at the towers. They were even more surreal-looking at night with the lights on. I felt the wind as it blew from the harbor up the river as it created gusts around the buildings.

I remembered how eight years earlier a bomb had been detonated in the parking garage beneath the site, but it hadn’t caused any damage to the structure. It seemed like they were indestructible, like manmade mountains of steel.

I decided that I would come back another night and visit Windows on the World, the restaurant on the top floor of the north tower. I thought I would always have the chance.

It never came.
