The motivation for Lightning was to enable Bitcoin to scale offchain on higher layers/L2.

The problem afaict is that we undermined full scale Lightning adoption by creating a Witness Discount (an effective blocksize increase on L1) which allowed for more use of L1

In 2017, the “small block” SegWit team chose to have their cake and eat it too.

So Bitcoin got Lightning by fixing Tx Malleability.

But Bitcoin also got a blocksize increase via the Witness Discount.

The Blocksize War was a War that never needed to happen.

In fact, it wasn’t a War at all.

The Blocksize War was actually a Blocksize Compromise + Lightning.

The Witness Discount was a mistake, and it’s Liberating to admit that. Fiat Clown World conditioned us to “Just do Something!”, move fast and break things, and never admit making a mistake.

Clown World mentality has seeped into how Bitcoiners approach growing Bitcoin.

Blocks was to create a release valve to push more transactions off chain.
