OK, so I was cringing in advance of watching the musical episode of Strange New Worlds that I'd heard about (s02e09). But I was wrong.

It's not just a Wormhole Extreme (StarGate SG:1). They've folded into cutely into a sci-fi premise, and there is character development, payoff for earlier event. The songs are fun, and the crew are suprisingly good singer, presuming it's all them. But if not they've matched the voices bloody well.

I was thinking about a model for doing Free Code maintainership.

I know a few older hackers who can't be bothered writing whole software packages themselves anymore. But if there's a project they personally use or care about, and they're familiar with the programming language(s) used (or willing to brush up), they might be willing to review and merge patches.

Sparing enthusiastic coders from review duties, and maybe increasing code quality.

Disclaimer, I'm not really a programmer, certainly not a protocols designers, and I don't know all that much about the guts of how matrix works. There may be perfectly good reasons why neither of these are good ideas. Or they may be obvious ideas that have already been suggested, but the devil is in the details.

2) Allow Alice to verify that the new account is also hers, and invite it into chats her old account is in. This might be done with a tickbox list of all Direct and group chats, with an all/none toggle button. For Direct chats, the app would need to warn that joining the new account boots the old one, via an automatic admin request from the old one to leave the room.

Maybe this could reuse the session system that she uses to verify new logins by the same account, in different apps?

When the Direct chat begins, once the two rooms are created, they are plumbed together. Whichever of Alice's accounts come and go through the room, from Bob's end, it's always a 'chat with Bob' at her end, and a 'chat with Alice' at his. With the appropriate name and avatar at each end.

The second solution is potentially fiddlier, because it tinkers with the sessions verification system...

I can think of two possible fixes;

1) When Alice starts the Direct chat with Bob it creates *two* rooms. One at Alice's end that's tied to Bob, and one at Bob's, tied to Alice. The room tied to Alice will always display her current username and avatar, and the same with one tied to Bob will show his. If either user has two accounts on the room at once, it defaults to the username and avatar of the one that's been there longest.
