Find out more about the theme of the upcoming Cape Town Bitcoin conference in this episode https://youtu.be/RlnMt6wxQ5A
The Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town conference is going to a unique experience. In South Africa, parallel institutions like Sakeliga, Afriforum and Solidariteit operate in an extremely effective manner to fill the vacuum left by an incompetent state.
What we aim to achieve with this conference is to bring these institutions and their members into a forum with Bitcoiners and let the magic happen.
Check out this interview between local South African bitcoiners, Hermann Viviers & Ricki Allardice about the conference, and what you can expect from it.
You can grab your tickets to the conference here: https://adoptingbitcoin.org/capetown-2024/

Cape Town Bitcoin CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Attention #Bitcoin township builders:
Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town
26 - 28 Jan, 2024
We hereby invite builders from South Africa's townships to apply for an attendance grant, to attend the Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town Conference.
If you live or work in a South African township, and you want to build with #Bitcoin, to encourage adoption at a grassroots level in your township, then this is for you!
The past two years have opened up a window for us. We've seen first-hand that #Bitcoin adoption can have a positive impact in a South African township setting and we'd like to use the Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town conference as a platform, to encourage further adoption at a grassroots level. Specifically within South Africa's townships.
We want to hear what you want to build. And if we like what we hear we want to help you attend the conference and (potentially) help fund your idea following the conference.
Whether it's a circular economy project, a soccer tournament with prize money paid in Bitcoin, Bitcoin education, or whatever you have in mind. As long as it encourages #Bitcoin adoption at a grassroots level, specifically in a South African township setting.
Proof of work for previous projects will be considered, but if this is your first time building something, do still apply. Lack of previous experience does not automatically disqualify you from consideration.
Send your proposal to:
capetown@adoptingbitcoin.org
No need to apply if you just want a free conference ticket and do not have the perseverance to actually build what you've proposed. Also, #Bitcoin only.
The conference organisers are not under any obligation to select any proposal. No amount of funding and/or support for attending the conference, and/or subsequent project support, is guaranteed and will depend entirely on proposals received and the discretion of organisers.
If you want to support this cause and contribute towards the fund, or sponsorship of the conference in general, please contact:
capetown@adoptingbitcoin.org
Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town 2024 is hosted by @Machankura8333 and organised under the @AdoptingBTC brand.

Official conference announcement:
Why host a Bitcoin conference in Cape Town?
South Africa is a world leader in government incompetency. It is what it is. But this situation has resulted in some world leading parallel institutions being built to fill the vacuum left by the state. Schools, colleges, security, community upliftment, electricity production, you name it, we have motivated individuals building it. These organizations are a shining light of what can be achieved through proof of work.
However, the missing piece of the puzzle is sound money. All of these organizations operate using our local currency, the Rand. They also make use of the local banking infrastructure. They stand to loose all that they have built should the Rand suffer a collapse, or should the banking infrastructure be weaponized against them by a malevolent state.
Bitcoiners have been building alternatives to the fiat system for the past 13 years. We understand that the seperation of money and state is vital for mankind to flourish. But we can't do this alone.
It's time we bring these two groups together. The builders of a sound society require sound money.
At Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town, we aim to make this happen.
Come join us in the most beautiful city on earth and be part of something great.
GM. Cape Town is the most beautiful city on earth and it's about time it had a Bitcoin conference.
