Even if he wanted to use Nostr to sling shitcoins, I'd have a little more respect than for his current indifference. What is happening here is nothing short of a revolution across multiple disciplines. I feel like I have failed to explain to my wife just how incredible Nostr + lightning are.

Last night I demonstrated zapping to her, and she asked "how is that better than PayPal?"

After I'd picked myself up from the floor, I tried to explain and she said part of the reason she turns off when I start speaking is how aggressively I defend N+LN+BTC.

So, I clearly need to change my approach, and to think more carefully about how to talk to normies. Some initial thoughts below; what have I missed, Nostriches?

- Instantaneous, free final settlement. There's no rent seeker in the way, and my transfer can't be frozen or stopped. I can make micropayments of less than a penny, to someone on the other side of the world

- Essentially it's a cash transfer from peer to peer, without an authority in the way who can charge me or interfere

- I can pay total strangers, at will, without any KYC and without even finding out their names or locations

- The asset itself is absolutely scarce, travels at the speed of light, and can't be confiscated

I can't have my account suspended, or my access to the system withdrawn or limited.

I'm finding it an interesting thought experiment to try to encapsulate worldviews according to the smallest possible set of books that encompasses those views. If I could sum up the overall sentiment of my favorite profiles on Nostr, it would probably best be represented by The Sovereign Individual. I've never read it though. The book I've read that is most closely emulated by what I'm seeing on Nostr is "Fall; or, Dodge in Hell" by Neal Stephenson. Superintelligence is the next book on my to-read list that I believe speaks directly to the big questions about the implications of what we're building on Nostr by combining humans, cryptography, AI, and digital currency. In subtle ways, the Bible itself and related apocryphal works seem to me to be increasingly relevant to the current times and understanding the process that got us here, the development of morality, law, and economy.
