Follow the Journal of My Last Spring on nostr. Tweeting in real-time from 1917

I am generous to the point of being careless about money.

My first night at Mowat Lodge. Poorly heated, makeshift and rustic.

When I painted a sketch, I had to get on with it, without worrying about the composition.

My room @mowatlodge is on the 2nd floor, 2nd last window on the right

A long day of travelling makes for a weary soul.

It was in the spring of 1912 that I fell in love with Algonquin Park.

In 1901 I followed my brothers to Seattle. I stayed four years and learned photo-engraving.

In late 1913 Dr MacCallum offered to pay my expenses for a year to dedicate myself to painting.

I'm back up North.

Ravenswood, Rainy Lake, Brule Lake and my final destination, Canoe Lake.

I can see a sentinel on the other side of the trestle. Likely one of the section men.

If this doesn't make you nervous, then I don't know what will

On the Cashman Creek Trestle. 500ft long, 80ft high. Nerve-wracking. Perfect target for a German saboteurs.

The War has given every woman that hangdog look. There is no longer joy in the eyes of anyone.

I can see that Canoe Lake is still completely covered with ice

Some say my colours are exaggerated, but that was the very colour in the light of the moment.

If I bring whisky to @mowatlodge Annie Fraser will find it and Shannon Fraser will drink it
