Me: 'Winnie, does your father know?'

Winnie: 'Tom, I'm sure my mother knows now. I've been ill in the mornings. My sister knows too. She's training to become a nurse.'

Outside, the late afternoon sun is still bright. But I noticie in the sunlight that @WinnieTrainor is pale.

I can see the tiredness in @WinnieTrainor's eyes. We can't talk in the store. We go out the front door. All eyes are on us.

The economy was in a slump in 1914. The fact that someone chose to be a full-time artist was viewed as frivolous

Me: 'Winnie, I came to see you. We need to make plans.'

Winnie: 'Tom! What are you doing here?'

I say quietely, 'Hello Winnie.' @WinnieTrainor whirls around in her chair.

I enter the front of the store and go to the back office where @WinnieTrainor works. All eyes are on me.

Going to Stephenson and Anderson's Grocery Store where @WinnieTrainor works as a bookkeeper.

I don't want to go see @WinnieTrainor until it's near closing time. So I go to the drug store and have a bottle of Coke.

You cant work in peace unless you have a bear trying to steal your bacon.

I decide to buy a new shirt from the men's clothing shop and put it on right away. I feel clean and crisp - like a million bucks
