George Bartlett didn't like people dying in the Park, much less buried there too.

In the early days, there was no point in having a Christian burial, just a spade in the bush and silence afterwards

Lumbermen would be buried, marked by a cross, close to where they drowned. Infants were buried in unmarked graves.

Someone told me that the adults never wanted to buried at Mowat Cemetery, bodies would be shipped back home to their families.

Mowat Cemetery is a quarter mile west of the Lodge. It's an odd sort of cemetery - there are only two graves there.

Harris was one of the few artists close to me.

I get off the train at Canoe Lake Station. I decide not to go to @mowatlodge right away. I go to the cemetery instead.

Jackson said it wasn't about Canadian art, it was ending our dependence on stale European tradtions

MacDonald seemed to have more financial debts than whatever I earned in my entire lifetime.

I get off at Scotia Junction. I don't t have to wait long before the train comes in from Depot Harbour.

Lismer was gregarious and talkative; I was withdrawn and reticent. We became best of friends.
