We often want immediate action to address environmental degradation and conservation organizations express urgent funding needs “now.” In a shift to a low time preference approach to charitable gift utilization, I believe a new foundation approach should be considered, and a new entity created. This entity would begin with a clearly stated mission, a Board of well respected and trustworthy individuals, and a multisig wallet. Little action and overhead would be needed/used during the first 4 years from the org’s inception. BTC donations could flow in and mature. During year 5, requests for grants could be opened based on endowment. This would need to be a new org to avoid the temptation of an existing org’s leadership to into the donations with a high time preference.
I see a great and imminent opportunity for foundations and other charitable entities to embrace BTC donations and to use a low time preference of at least 4-5 years in utilizing these donations.
