Glad to hear Zapstream is moving into YouTube alt -type video platform. It looks pretty cool and avoids looking like a bitcoiners-only thing.

Making users pay to upload is probably going to mean that it won't really reach new people outside of those already here. I think it's quite a big hurdle for someone just testing the waters, they may even be unfamiliar with bitcoin/lightning too. Which is kind of also the people I think it would need to attract (?).

Obviously this is their approach to the costs problem and spam content videos. Not sure how you get around that whilst also attracting new video content people outside of the bubble #asknostr 🤔 via a nostr.build upload with nostrbuild taking a percent of whatever gets zapped to the video? ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

While I didn't plan to, I've recently accepted and started a new salaried position - it's only part time, so I can still focus on what I want to focus on, but it gives me a set regular income, which is something I'm unaccustomed to in the last decade or so.

That being the case, as I adapt to this new reality, I've decided to spend the equivalent of a few subscriptions to legacy services each month on nostr, so a small regular payment each month to a developer, a relay operator, an artist, a musician and more zaps. It ain't much, but I want to direct my energy to the people who do the things I want to see in the world, and that's you lot.

Seen some dunking on nostr and concern because of a drop in retention. Don't be concerned. Think big picture and long term. The numbers will build over time. What we've got here is great and well worth the effort.

If there is any institution that should be interested in preserving free speech, particularly in parts of the world that actively seek to suppress the gospel of Jesus Christ, it ought to be the Church, and we haven't ever had a more effective tool for preserving that right in the public square than Nostr.
