Instagram is such an evil and horrible hack into our brains.

They get you by being a great way to share moments with family, specially when you live from family and have small kids.

But then they add a bunch of random brain sticky things, lots of great botty and stuff to one click buy. Ppl get stuck on the scrolling and waste their lives on it, just like they use to on the shopping channel.

Nonsense Mr Anderson you have to be able to travel between both realms

I noticed I don't post on here half as much as the I do centralised algo apps. I couldn't figure out why.

And now I know why.. I pick my phone up, doom scroll, then 20/30 minutes later I'll put my phone down. Within about 30 seconds the centralised algo app will buzz me with a notification to say "You might like this from Karen"

So my stupid monkey brain is intrigued. Picks the phone up again (like it's a banana) and I'm not even interested in what Karen is doing. I notice 'Tony' has a new role at work and click on his page with my monkey paw. Then suddenly an hour has gone by. I notice an article, I'll read that. It was rubbish (most of the time) - I'm frustrated.

But keep going back.

And I've not even thought about Nostr once, even though I think I know it's value - it represents what i think i represent - freedom, self sovereignty, Bitcoin etc.

I'll sometimes even flick through the other centralised algo apps before I put my phone down and not once go through my Nostr feed, even though I love it.

The other apps are like crack (i imagine). But the crack is not even good. And I keep chasing the cheap dopamine hits from them. Like a social media junkie.

I've quit so many things before, like smoking and drinking. Toxic women. Shitcoins. Social Media is one thing I truly struggle with.

So I'm going to wein myself off it - one day at a time. I read somewhere that it takes 3 weeks to form a new habbit.

Or 21 days.

Looks like there was a configuration issue on noteguard, i bumped the damus relay rate limit from 1 a minute to 6 a minute, I didn’t think 1 a minute was a lot but apparently it was!

Damus will keep retrying to write the note regardless so even at 1 per minute the note should get written eventually.

The damus does not rate limit read-requests, only writes. If we didn’t the disk would fill up in a couple hours and die by spammers.

I have spent a lot of 1:1 time with friends this year to see more what people are about now. These are 20-year friendships for me.

And friends who aren’t self-employed won’t get it. They’ll never get it. Same with family. The people who love the comfy, risk-free life will never get it.

I did find one friend is begging for Bitcoin knowledge, so that’s awesome. But spending time with plebs in meatspace to forge community there truly helps. Make pleb friends, even if it’s long distance.

I have a feeling I'll be ghosting a lot of friends in the coming years.

Spending time around bitcoiners makes me question old friendships. I have friends I've known for 20+ years who haven't offered any real value in a long time.

That sounds awful to say, but they are so caught up in their dead end jobs and other bullshit. No care for anything else. They think the MSM and government are the best sources of truth. No interest in growing, or in self reflection.

Any attempt at deep, meaningful conversation basically turn into the "That's crazy. Catch the game last night?" meme. It's frustrating.

I'm still processing my feelings on this. I haven't had a close "crew" of buddies since high school. Even that was superficial. I've always been that guy people hang out with, but never a part of the "inner circle" or whatever.

I'm not saying this to garner empathy. I'm the complete opposite of depressed, and I don't stay up at night wishing I was one of the cool kids. I like having a close family, a wife that's my best friend, and a couple others I can talk to about anything and everything in a meaningful way.

I'm just wondering if it's time to drop some baggage.

Nostr is a great place for long-ish form writing. I love privacy, but I also love sharing the human experience. I spent the first 30 years of life keeping everything bottled up inside.

Never going back to that.
