i dont know why people would go for instant settlement with the coin that has most liquidity, highest hashrate/security, decentralization, best UI/UX. (if you wana play privacy card look at jamapp, wasabi or many other options to use btc more private than monero can ever be)

i think both are fast. custodial is just easier. and considering the risk of losing very small amounts i think its worth the trade off.
unpopular opinion:
using custodial lightning wallets like wallet of satoshi for small amounts is okay.
you do not need to physically protect your hardware wallet if used correctly.
you do not need a secure element in a hardwarewallet if used correctly
you will be able to comply to 5 usd wrench attacks without losing the majority of your sats if used correctly
- use a complex passphrase
- use privacy focused wallets/interfaces like wasabi with your hww.
- buy non kyc btc
- use jamapp to coinjoin
- dont talk about your bitcoin
