I have been an educator for almost a decade, and from experience, I know all too well the benefits of Play-Based Learning. #BitcoinMinerQuest was inspired by this educational approach where play is the primary method for learning. Therefore, today I decided to take a deeper dive into the subject. Here is what I found.
Essentially, there are 7 core principles to the subject.
1/ Learner-Centered Approach:
In play-based learning, activities are designed around the interests and developmental stages of the learners. This ensures engagement and relevance, making learning more effective and enjoyable.
2/ Active Engagement:
Play is an active process. It encourages learners to interact with their environment, manipulate objects (like game pieces), and engage in physical activities, which are crucial for cognitive development.
3/ Social Interaction:
Play often involves social interaction, which is key for developing communication skills, understanding social norms, and learning cooperation and teamwork. In a board game setting, players interact, negotiate, and collaborate, mimicking real-life social and economic interactions.
4/ Holistic Development:
Play-based learning supports not just academic skills but also emotional, social, physical, and creative development. For instance, #BitcoinMinerQuest could enhance mathematical skills (calculating Mining Fees, FIAT to Bitcoin transactions etc.), critical thinking (strategizing), and creativity (imagining Bitcoin-related scenarios).
5/ Learning Through Exploration and Discovery:
