And the village of Aioun Al Atrouss in Mauritania rose to 47.0C, which ties its record of the hottest May day ever (= May 1996 and May 2009) and ties its 2nd hottest day ever (> 80 years of data) only behind 15 June 2001 (47.6C).

Very hot in Southern Algeria today.
The outpost of In Guezzam (lat 19N, alt 400m asl) rose above 45C and was the world's hottest station together with Bilma in Northern Niger (also rising to 45C).
