GM. How’s your fourth turning going?

True. However, the clowns on the left are less clownish than the clowns on the right.

It is a spectrum.

The story behind this depiction of Jesus, known as the Divine Mercy image, is worth telling.

St. Faustina, a Polish nun, reported visions of Jesus in 1931. He appeared to her in a white garment with rays of red and pale light emanating from His heart. Jesus asked her to create this image with the inscription "Jesus, I trust in You." With the help of her confessor, Michael Sopoćko, the first Divine Mercy image was painted by Eugene Kazimierowski in 1934.

This depiction quickly became famous, particularly after St. Faustina's diary was published, and after Pope John Paul II canonized her in 2000 and established Divine Mercy Sunday.

Have a blessed Sunday.

You cannot awaken someone who isn’t yet ready for it. But you can subtly point them in the right direction.

“This is the old problem: if all things are the One, why does the One become the Many? If there is but one Self, why do men imagine that there are many selves? To these questions Mahayana Buddhism gives no verbal answer save to point out that questions asked under illusion are themselves part of the illusion. To the awakened consciousness of a Buddha the one has not become the many; it is the many.”

Imagine letting trusted 3rd parties hold all your wealth for you. A single hack or policy change could wipe it all out.

DEI is having a rough week.

The solution is meritocracy.

“Just as it is impossible to explain the beauty of a sunset to a man blind from his birth, so it is impossible for sages to find any words which will express their wisdom to men of lesser understanding.”

— Alan Watts, The Spirit of Zen

Unpopular opinion: In the movie, Idiocracy (2008), President Camacho is actually a fairly good President by the standards of his time.

He wants what is best for his country, and is willing to listen to the movie’s protagonist, Joe, about watering crops with water instead of Brawndo, thus saving his people from starvation.

Finally reading Alan Watts’ first-ever book, “The Spirit of Zen” (1936), which he published at just 21 years of age.

Will be sharing my favorite insights from the young philosopher as I do.

“Zen is feeling life instead of feeling something about life; it has no patience with second-hand wisdom, with someone else’s description of a spiritual experience, or with mere conceptions and beliefs.”

— Alan Watts, The Spirit of Zen
