Some Bitcoiners Are Using Gains To Buy Houses And Cars
More households are using gains made from Bitcoin investing to take out mortgages and buy cars.
“Bitcoin sales are allowing access to larger mortgages through bigger down payments,” researchers Samuel Hughes, Francisco Ilabaca, Jacob Lockwood, and Kevin Zhao wrote in a Nov. 26 report for the Treasury’s Office of Financial Research.
“The increase in borrowing is especially striking among households in high Bitcoin exposure areas,” they added.
The report said the percentage of households with mortgages in high Bitcoin-exposed areas increased by over 250%, and the average mortgage balance rose by 150% from around $172,000 in 2020 to roughly $443,000 in 2024.
“Zip codes with the highest Bitcoin exposure saw the largest increase in mortgage and auto loan originations and balances over subsequent years.”
The study used tax data to determine which areas had higher exposure to Bitcoin assets, classifying a “high-Bitcoin” zip code as one with more than 6% of households reporting a Bitcoin tax event.

National Center For Public Policy Research Proposes BTC Treasury To Amazon
The National Center for Public Policy noted that MicroStrategy's stock outperformed Amazon's stock by 537% due to its Bitcoin strategy.
The National Center for Public Policy Research — a Washington DC-based think tank championing free markets — has submitted a shareholder proposal to Amazon Corp arguing for a Bitcoin corporate treasury strategy to be considered at the April 2025 shareholder meeting.
"As of December 6, 2024, the price of Bitcoin increased by 131% over the previous year, outperforming corporate bonds by 126% on average. Over the past five years, the price of Bitcoin increased by 1,246%, outperforming corporate bonds by 1,242% on average."
The authors concluded by proposing that Amazon allocate at least 5% of its assets to Bitcoin to protect the value of its treasury assets and even cited MicroStrategy's success with its Bitcoin treasury strategy.

China Finds $83 Billion Worth Of Gold Reserves In Hunan
BEIJING, Nov 21 (Reuters) - China has found gold reserves worth 600 billion yuan ($82.9 billion) in central Hunan province, state outlet Xinhua news said on Thursday.
China is the world's largest gold producer, accounting for around 10% of global output in 2023, data from the World Gold Council showed.
It consumed 741.732 metric tons of gold in the first three quarters of this year while output was 268.068 tons, meaning it has to rely on imports to meet domestic demand.
Hunan Academy of Geology found more than 40 gold ore veins at a depth of more than 2,000 meters in Pingjiang county, with a total of 300.2 tons of gold resources discovered in the core exploration area and a highest grade of 138 grams per metric ton, Xinhua said.
The group forecast that there were more than 1,000 tons of gold reserves at a depth of over 3,000 meters, according to Xinhua.
Gold reserves generally refer to the economically extractable part of a resource.
Gold prices have rallied this year on the back of rising geopolitical tensions globally.
The most active gold futures contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange touched an all-time high of 639.48 yuan per gram on Oct. 30.
It closed Thursday's daytime trading 1.16% higher at 617.7 yuan a gram, a rise of 27.8% since the beginning of the year.
