On the quest to live a mindful, happy, healthy, long life.

How about some stoic #wisdom today?

"Misfortune weighs most heavily, on those who expect nothing but good fortune." -- Seneca

There's always something that doesn't go according to plan. So being prepared for things to go wrong, pays off. If only in maintaining your peace of mind and thus enabling you to make good decisions on the fly. Expect the unexpected and focus on what you can control.

"The heart of experiment is mystery. We cannot predict where a seed will lead or if it will take root. Remain open to the new and unknown. Begin with a question mark and embark on a journey of discover." -- Rick Rubin

He's talking about creating art, but his advise is equally applicable to life in general. Stay curious and open to where it leads you.

"If you are suffering, you are lost in thought." -- Sam Harris

I started reading "Built to Move" by Juliet and Kelly Starrett, after it popped up as a recommendation in three different orbits of my life. They describe ten vital signs with corresponding simple exercises to improve them. This book is for everyone, in all stages of life. It's definitely a path to the #goodlife, if you manage to be consistent and disciplined. I, for sure, am giving my best. 💪

"That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet." -- Emily Dickinson

I came across the Happiness Grid by Shinzen Young, which is kind of like a periodic table for #happiness. Might be interesting to score yourself to see how far along you are on the path to the #goodlife.

It's refreshing that there are people like Hester Peirce in governmental roles of power. Thanks nostr:npub1ahxjq4v0zlvexf7cg8j9stumqp3nrtzqzzqxa7szpmcdgqrcumdq0h5ech for bringing to light such an amazing display of humility and love for service. Especially the end of the conversation is heartwarming, though a bit sad that she can't participate in the #bitcoin economy herself. At least for now.

Let me know what you think! 😃

I had a chance encounter with Peter Diamandis recently and it made my day. I've been following his work for years. He's such an inspiration and leverages real world observations and data to predict the #goodlife for all of us within our lifetimes. His ideas are full of optimism, hope and #wisdom and empower lots of entrepreneurs to make his vision a reality.

If you don't know his work, you should check it out. I recommend starting with the book Abundance.

"Many people strive for efficient lives, where no hour is wasted. But an overlooked skill that doesn't get enough attention is the idea that wasting time can be a great thing." -- Morgan Housel

"The secret to doing good research is always to be a little underemployed. You waste years by not being able to waste hours." -- Amos Tversky

"Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between the two my life flows." -- Nisargadatta Maharaj

"The more you reduce your daily life-maintenance tasks, the greater the bandwidth available for creative decisions." -- Rick Rubin

Actually not just for creative decisions, but for anything ... more available time is never a bad thing, you never know what comes up, if you allow the space for it.

A related quote from Ryan Holiday: "If you can afford to, delegate it. If you can’t yet afford to, automate it. Time is the most precious resource."

"A common trait of human behavior is the burning desire for certainty despite living in an uncertain and probabilistic world." -- Morgan Housel

A difficult but useful skill to master is to be with uncertainty, to not rush to fix things immediately, to let them simmer for a while. Sometimes issues fix themselves, saving you time and energy, if only you could tolerate a little bit of uncertainty and chaos. It's a hard one for me, but I try to work on my chaos tolerance as best as I can.

Easier said than done:

"The first rule of happiness is low expectations. So in a world that tends to get better for most people most of the time, an important life skill is getting the goalpost to stop moving." -- Morgan Housel

I'd say reading some stoic #wisdom and striving to apply it, is well worth it:

"As we make progress in our practice of Stoicism, we will become increasingly indifferent to other people’s opinions of us. We will not go through our life with the goal of gaining their approval or avoiding their disapproval, and because we are indifferent to their opinions, we will feel no sting when they insult us. Indeed, a Stoic sage, were one to exist, would probably take the insults of his fellow humans to be like the barking of a dog." -- William B. Irvine

Two quotes from Marie Forleo's book "Everything is Figueroutable" about the importance of your beliefs:

"Your beliefs are the master commanders of your behavior and your results. Beliefs control our bodies and how we respond to crises, criticisms, and opportunities. They tell us what to notice, what to focus on, what it means , and what to do about it."

"Every belief has a consequence. Your beliefs either heal you or harm you. They either support your aspirations or thwart them. Belief becomes the source of your limitation or your liberation. It doesn't matter what's true, it matters what you believe."

"Jeff Bezos’ philosophy at Amazon was 'Focus on the things that don’t change'. This is a great business strategy but it’s also good life advice because way too often we give way too much attention to what is shiny and new or urgent and timely instead of what is timeless and important."

I fully agree with Ryan Holiday and have put his recommendation of Morgan Housel's new book "Same as Ever: A Guide to What Never Changes" on my reading list. I'm sure it contains plenty of advice for the #goodlife. I'll keep you posted once I get around to reading it.
