I've seen visions of ancient beings from the past and future occupying our bodies and using our brains as a sort of GPU for intergalactic games. The host bodies with the great visual brain are at higher levels than NPCs. Some of us have many players jockeying for positions inside the body and competing on a grand scale. Some of us have zero.
