Eat Food, NOT Commodities
Most of the food in grocery stores isn't real foodโit's commodities, mass-produced for profit, not for nutrition. ๐
1/ Commodities like corn, wheat, soy, veg. oils & sugar arenโt chosen for their nutrient densityโtheyโre chosen because theyโre cheap, storable, & profitable. These ultra-refined ingredients dominate processed foods.
2/ The U.S. food system subsidizes & industrializes these crops, turning them into highly processed, high-profit, low-nutrient products:
Corn โ High-fructose corn syrup, seed oils
Canola/Sunflower/Safflower โ High Omega-6
Wheat โ Refined flour (empty carbs)
Soy โ Soybean oil, fillers in processed meat
Sugar โ Ultra-processed junk
3/ These commodity-based foods are engineered for shelf life, profit & addiction, not for your health. They spike blood sugar, fuel obesity, & lack many essential nutrients.
4/ When you remove commodity-based foods from your diet, youโre left with:
โ
Local/regionally sourced meats
โ
Eggs from real farms
โ
Wild-caught fish/mollusks/crustaceans
โ
Fresh dairy (if tolerated)
โ
Seasonal vegetables/fruits/berries
โ
Nuts & animal fats instead of seed oils
5/ These foods are not mass-produced in the same way because they:
Require careful handling (not scalable)
Spoil faster (a sign of real food)
Canโt be easily turned into ultra-processed junk
6/ Food vs. Commodity:
๐ฑ Pastured beef โ Feedlot beef (corn-fed commodity)
๐ฅฉ Butter/Lard โ Vegetable oil (commodity soy/corn)
๐ณ Pasture-raised eggs โ Factory-farmed eggs (corn-fed)
๐ Fresh fruit โ Corn syrup-based โfruitโ snacks
7/ If your food comes from a factory instead of a farm, it's likely a commodity, not food.
8/ Real food nourishes. Commodities fill shelves. Choose wisely.
hint: if all you can currently afford/find is factory-farmed meat/eggs, they are still 100x better for you than sugar/grains/seed oils...
