I was at the courthouse today, waiting to get my license plates, when I overheard a conversation. They were talking about someone who had tried to use counterfeit money to pay for plates. It got so complicated they had to call in a company to verify the rest of the cash.

After that, I stepped up to pay for my plates. I used my credit card, signed the receipt, and noticed something ironic: they’d tacked on a $2 “convenience fee” for using my card. They should give a discount for using a verifiable source.
