Hence, darkness is important as it restores that which cannot be repaired by light. It refers that we always strive for happiness but sadness makes us realize the actual worth of happiness.
It means if you can't fix any problem you have in your life or bring positivity to something negative, the problem or negativity will just go back to its spot. Kind of like an empty piece of a puzzle, if you can't cover it up with the correct piece, that empty hole will always be there.
Our culture favors daylight, pleasant things, connection to others and togetherness. But just as sleep restores the body and mind, some struggles of the human heart can only be worked through in darkness, in uncertainty, in solitude, separated from others. It is difficult but inevitable and necessary.
In the dark his fondest memories were always waiting for him. He compared the light as being an interruption to an unfinished sentence. In the light his good memories retreated and he had to face the harsh realities of life, because the light reveals all the details you don't want to remember. But it was the precious and happy memories he had that came back to him in the dark that truly restored him and continued that interrupted sentence.
