Growing up in Hawaii “Uncle” has many meanings. When you are a kid any adult male you immediately refer to as uncle. It’s a respect thing. I grew up at the beach surfing and running amuck. Every beach always has the local uncles who always kept an eye on all the kids and passed them their knowledge. Didn’t matter if they were actually related or even knew each other.
