I was curious this morning, I wanted see what proportions of mortgages were issued as a fixed 30 year versus variable interest rate mortgages since 1971. To my surprise I could not find any data regarding the issuesance of variable interest rate mortgages, however I can find ample amount of data regarding 30 year & 15 year fixed mortgages. I definitely have some speculation as to why that is, but I’d love to hear from someone much more qualified to speak on this matter and hopefully point me to some reliable sources.
