an opinionated and jaded traveler

I’ll edit my statement to note that I use it as a phone and entertainment consumption device and respectable camera. If I need to prep a document, I’ll go use a real computer.

I was told that you don’t have an insect problem, so need for it…

Of course, you have two strong Bavarians to build one…

I guess modest clothes take up less space? :-)

In contrast, the stereotype is that Germans are overly concerned with privacy to the point that chased Google Street View away, had lagging signups for Facebook, and for some reason keep using cash unlike sensible Swedes.

My phone doesn’t need to have a file system. It’s just a phone!

Real data gets stored on a computer :-)

FWIW, visiting Europe tends to be a social class thing, especially outside of London or to a lesser extent Paris, so you’ll get the pretty UMC Americans.

The not so pretty ones may just go on cruises or tropical all expenses paid resorts if they even leave the country.

It’s weird, but I’ve never used Airdrop to transfer stuff. WhatsApp use is limited to my coworkers and a few relatives but WhatsApp doesn’t exist in the minds of most Americans.

So I guess I’d transfer files via messenger or email if they didn’t have some type of IM account.

That’s why I like my iPhone. It’s a phone that does a good job of being a phone versus being some forsaken device constantly at risk of hackers like Android.

If I want a real computer, I use a real computer. :-)

We only send our best overseas to Europe.

For example, you. :-)

Joke: Makeup.

Semi-seriously: multiple pairs of shoes and clothes…and related beauty products.

Somewhere, there's a man who wishes his woman would travel lighter and not require checked baggage fees for a weekend trip. :-)

It’s still real to me! :-)

Isn’t that supposedly what Americans do? Louder and slower on repeat?

TIL that long hair sheds.

But it won't go *vroom*. :-/

Don't quote me on this, but IIRC, the student teaching portion is done within the degree process here in the States.

The problem is that there’s a bottle neck in terms of supplying batteries so I don’t quite see it getting cheaper unless they cut down on the range or the tech gets really good really quickly and doesn’t rely on Chinese supply.

Ugh, so many people here would have prayed for an early retirement law here…

With that said, in NYS, it’s basically a BA + MA programme and you can get a provisional license to teach with the BA for a few years. The problem is that everybody wants to teach in a nice suburban district versus urban districts where the kids are, um, rough especially if you’re a nice suburban person.
