'Nostr for Normies' nostr:npub1wmr34t36fy03m8hvgl96zl3znndyzyaqhwmwdtshwmtkg03fetaqhjg240's Talk @ Nostrasia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pGZ2epF8ZY

I'm watching the whole thing now, imo opinion one of the most interesting presentation from Nostrasia. I don't think his app is for me mostly (eg I don't need negative-content curation, following other people's Mute Lists) but I'm pretty much on the same page with his introduction, especially his focus on the major complaint of the B!tcoin Tourettes Chatroom dilemma.

Not sure if Rabble has seen nostrdit, but I think their Onboarding Wizard is a clever idea which tackles some of the issues he raises (screenshots below).

And he didn't mention nostrudel, although I'm sure he would be aware of it. Nostrudel profile pages are also a great resource for discovery, the show Community membership of that particular user, and Communities in general list members, so despite them being quiet Communities offer a some pretty good potentially recommended users. It's not unimaginable that Community Membership could be used as a way for an app to offer recommendations in future.

Questions I still wonder about:

- Who are exactly the 'normies' devs somewhat fetishise?

Nostr devs seem to be after the 'typical' tiktok and instagram user, despite those platforms having a lot of their most active and engaging content being from subcultures. I've said all this before but I think the normie is slightly mythological, but even if they were to exist they would arrive anyway if The Content was here. (Which goes back to the introductory problem of b!tcoin tourettes chatroom spam, that stuff is not considered content by anyone outside of BT).

- If 'normies' can use discord, they can work out eg nostrudel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- The normies are already here.

Just because you've bought b!tcoin doesn't mean you're not a normie. Whatever is left after you've appled a lot of b!tcoin filter words would be considered 'normie'. Nostr should focus on attracting the non-normies if anything.

Sorry, I'm both using and not wanting to use 'normie' lol, tbf I don't think Rabble is using it as a pejorative tho, I think it's mostly just used as it's a nice snappy title for a talk. 'non-dev users' and 'non-b!tcoin tourettes sufferers' might not be as snappy a term ;)

Anyway, the washing machine beeped and I need to hang my laundry.

It's been fun typing this.

I may add to this depending on how defeated I feel after wrestling the clothes horse.

Extremely commendable for him to stick to his core values. He and I would probably not get along IRL, but I do believe we share the same core values. Competent successful people like him allow for sub par people like myself to enjoy more of life.

Starts look like fractional resurve banking as more layers are added, doesn't it

GN nostr

Been talking to friends and colleagues these last few days about NOSTR and the potential it has for the creative industry.

What’s missing here is good content. Quality art, animation, design, music… There is definitely a need. For the sake of simplicity let’s lump them all under the banner of “creative”.

Right now, the venue for creatives is places like Instagram, YouTube, Spotify… all the other alternative platforms such as Oddysee, Rumble, Minds, etc., get overlooked because those platforms are - for the most part - “not what they are use too.” It’s not the stereotypical demographic for creatives.

But when these people post their work on the mainstream platforms and monetize, mainstream takes their pound of flesh. Instagram and Threads… there is no monetization, and the incentive models are definitely broken… yet people still continue to post their content there.

The opportunity for creatives, and it’s a big opportunity, is that posting to NOSTR they get to retain their data And when it comes to monetization; it is direct business-To-consumer. No middle man.

As I’ve explained it to my colleagues: Imagine a small studio (you) and you produce a short form piece. You publish to NOSTR. You make something that people like and appreciate. They ZAP you some Sats. It’s direct. You’re already monetizing. The incentive to keep getting Zaps is to continue to produce quality content to your market. You don’t even need a large audience.

Eyes open.

They’re getting it.

When the creative industry figures this out… (and NOSTR is still around)… It’s going to change things in a HUGE way.

Agree but... to do this there must also be a solid market place underpinning it. There first need to be a successful Craigslist clone using the protocol. The only way you challenge the already successful monopolist is through runaway success, the core of this is commerce of every day stuff. Its going to be tough. For many reasons that are not PC to talk about with in the broader community. Mainly you will have to fight the Maxies, to be successful there will need to be so many new products to challenge the existing structures the existing structures wont be able to prevent the success. Maxies create a choke point, and no one wants to be the next Ross

One day I'll get around to reading/watching this stuff... while listening to someone talk about bureaucracy's it occurred to me that the boomer gen has built bureaucratic towers to protect their power in the long term. They can't promote the most competent because it would challenge their position, so they keep around barely competent sociopathic sycophants, while those who may have replaced them have gone on to specialize and succeed in outher fields. The barley competent implicit job in many ways is protect the alfalfas position and that is their specialty, the tools they developed are the tools they will use once they inherit the position they are incompetent for. They can't do the job they inherit, and there is no one to replace the compatant, so they just do the thing they are good at. Using powerful tools to hide their incompetence while looting as long as possible.

Absolutely, nothing is polished and perfect, and if you pretend it is larger and more impressive than the rest , it is no different than than taking an inflammatory pill

Ya, but it's all theatrical. All the contracts, all the people, all the governments, all the randomness, and all the silliness, need to align to make a statement like the op real. It's like talking to libertarians, I love it is wonderful but also like Santa claus

I keep seeing posts like this, who is this for, what purpose does this serve, I dont understand this? Have to admit have not been paying any attention, out of context this is odd.
