All glory be to Christ.

Aside from looking at the number of followers, how do you tell if an account is real or an impersonator? #nostr

Having five kids and a sixth on the way means a lot of random hospital bills. Would be incredible if they’d send a Lightning Invoice QR code. #lightning #bitcoin

It would be cool if Nostr apps like Primal and Damus exposed user engagement metrics (for my own user) that could be used as inputs for a custom algorithm.

Many Nostr apps auto recommend that you follow accounts based on your interests, and I’d love to start silencing accounts that I don’t engage with. But it’s hard to keep track of that manually.

I noticed I don't post on here half as much as the I do centralised algo apps. I couldn't figure out why.

And now I know why.. I pick my phone up, doom scroll, then 20/30 minutes later I'll put my phone down. Within about 30 seconds the centralised algo app will buzz me with a notification to say "You might like this from Karen"

So my stupid monkey brain is intrigued. Picks the phone up again (like it's a banana) and I'm not even interested in what Karen is doing. I notice 'Tony' has a new role at work and click on his page with my monkey paw. Then suddenly an hour has gone by. I notice an article, I'll read that. It was rubbish (most of the time) - I'm frustrated.

But keep going back.

And I've not even thought about Nostr once, even though I think I know it's value - it represents what i think i represent - freedom, self sovereignty, Bitcoin etc.

I'll sometimes even flick through the other centralised algo apps before I put my phone down and not once go through my Nostr feed, even though I love it.

The other apps are like crack (i imagine). But the crack is not even good. And I keep chasing the cheap dopamine hits from them. Like a social media junkie.

I've quit so many things before, like smoking and drinking. Toxic women. Shitcoins. Social Media is one thing I truly struggle with.

So I'm going to wein myself off it - one day at a time. I read somewhere that it takes 3 weeks to form a new habbit.

Or 21 days.

So here it goes #21daysOfNostr

Posting everyday. 🫔🧔

My Twitter usage has gone down a lot since finally taking the time to get comfortable with Nostr (via Primal). But like you said, I still check it when I need a hit.

I’m still learning how to properly curate my Nostr feed.. but I think I’m close to being able to kill Twitter altogether.

Is there an imaginable scenario where it would be right for the US to send troops into #venezuela?

The trick is to not have very much.. they’ll never come for you.

I love how surprised he was at the response. It’s a learning process for him… getting to hear an explosive applause makes me think he may actually do it.

Good afternoon.

The Bitcoin conference currently has a lot of political theater, and the Trump headliner is front and center much to everyone’s joy or frustration depending on where you stand on that, but I’ll take a moment to highlight something that’ll get lost in the shuffle.

Today on the main stage, Jason Maier (author A Progressive’s Case for Bitcoin) interviewed progressive congressman Rho Khanna. They talked about a lot of stuff but the TLDR headline takeaway statement from Khanna was ā€œBitcoin is about freedom. Bitcoin is about human rights.ā€

And around the same time, a bunch of Democrat Congress people sent a letter to the DNC chair saying the party needs to embrace this industry better, and basically that the Warren wing of the party isn’t the way to go here anymore. Whether it’s polling data, sheer numbers about how many Americans own this stuff, or more knowledge conversations about bitcoin’s energy impact and other things, being anti-bitcoin is a losing strategy.

Yes, a lot of this will be forgotten after the election, both from Republicans and Democrats. Politicians gonna politic. And there will be shitcoinery. Politicians are currently in their pandering phase. But when I began writing about this industry nearly seven years ago, I would not have expected to see this much explicit support by 2024.

The builders, the educators, the advocates- all of your work does matter. At least when it comes to protecting Americans and others against some of the most potentially hostile government positions, the narrative war is working. We need more work on the right to privacy, and that imo is the harder battle, but given how successful things have been on other fronts, I think that front is workable too.

Immutable money. Unstoppable voice. Endless memes.

Bitcoin is truly a Trojan horse. It’s completely unstoppable by the ruling class, so they ā€œembraceā€ it so as not to be irrelevant, but it will ultimately strip them of their power.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more optimistic about the immediate future of Bitcoin. The US is about to make tremendous progress on embracing #bitcoin as a strategic asset a tool for freedom.

Bitcoin has always been a threat to centralized power, which is why the ruling class has zero reason to embrace it. But it’s been amazing to see how Bitcoin has become an unstoppable force and politicians have no choice but to embrace it or be completely irrelevant.

I was considering hyping up the Olympics and trying to start a new tradition with my kids, but that’s out of the question now. #olympics
