I think that is the reason why many people see animals only as commodities. At least the so-called farm animals. They have been turned into a "thing", mentally. People who raise and kill animals themselves think differently about them. Or the hunter who experiences the interplay of nature and then hunts. When industry takes over farming and slaughtering, it's all about price and efficiency

Was looking for my computer mouse yesterday and remembered my dream from the night before.

I dreamt of a little mouse. Everyone was trying to kill it and it scared me so I went to a toy store looking for a little house for it to live in. Strange dream.

That then reminded me of the little mouse that lived in the walls of a store in Carnaby street I used to work at. I asked my manager not to hurt him, he was so cute. He would crawl out of the walls and go shopping in the street and then run back inside the walls. He was so very tiny. One day I came in and saw exterminators cleaning out the remains and my heart sank. Made me pretty sad.
