“Everyone has the right to privacy and the ability to express themselves without being surveilled.” - Laura Poitras

Also, nothing I just said implies I don’t support both sides. So again, I’m unsure how you’re deriving your conclusion based off of the post stating that the American government is trying to subvert the CCP from spying on their people and not censor them.

Everything needs to be open platform. People should be able say what they want even if you don’t agree with it. If they say things ypu don’t agree with, there are means of which to keep from seeing that content.

Those in power will censor that which they don’t agree with to control the narrative. Unfortunately that means there will be things said that people find offensive. Thats part of everyone being entitled to an opinion even if you think that opinion is wrong. But it should be up to the individual to make the decision on what they want to see and not see.

How could you possibly come to that conclusion from what I just said?

I am all for freedom of speech. It’s why I so fully support nostr and other platforms like it. But when you immediately think the reasoning behind a country banning an app is to impede freedom of speech without doing your homework first, you’re not helping. This is nothing but confirmation bias and making any situation fit your agenda. It’s a well known fact TikTok is being used by the CCP to spy on the American people.

That’s fucking awful. I’m really sorry to hear that happened to her. Despite my strong opposing opinions for Facebook, I hope she gets access to her account again. I can only imagine how devastation that must be.

I’m inclined to agree with you. It’s really unfortunate seeing how much of their lives individuals pour into those accounts. The individual I know had the account for almost two decades years. They had at least 16 years of photos of their children on there. In an instant they were gone forever. People take advantage of platforms like Facebook not charging them for photo storage and are oblivious to the fact things like this can happen and they lose their everything.

I saw this happen to someone I know recently. Completely locked out of their account and Meta not willing to help them get it back. They have to know that this is global issue with their platform.. it's fascinating to me they don't take more initiative to help people get their accounts back seeing how as those people are how they make all of their money.

What type of experience are you looking for and what hardware are you gonna toss it on? I recently put Pop on an older(2015) Macbook Pro and getting WiFi to work was a major pain in the ass but once it was working everything was fine.

If you're looking for a daily driver, might I recommend Pop!_OS? It's privacy oriented and actively developed by System76. I've found it to be a very adopter friendly Linux OS.

What is this service? I looked for a readme page but didn't immediately find anything.

Especially when the things you lose are "friends".

These aliases are meant to be a "catch all" type email address that forward mail on. Proton does in fact let you create new email addresses from the settings menu that you can send email from but the primary use case with the aliases is so you don't have to disclose your actual email address when signing up for new accounts.

That’s one gorgeous view. Is it expensive to live there?
