There were more books before the church, and honestly if you ever look into the rejected books of the bible you'll find some absolute lunacy. Gnosticism is entirely apeshit. The church had to pare their new religion down into a single canon and yet we still have 40,000 denominations even after that. Reading the Bible destroyed by ability to be susceptible to bullshit. Some of the thoughts expressed in some biblical passages are endearing, though. I think it stands on its own as a work of fiction.
Not gonna lie- I might not have been an atheist had I casually absorbed "spirituality" from church service instead of actually reading the Bible.
