that README doesn't mention "DNS" ever, the complaints about Mastodon are that the Mastodon server owner owns your identity.
also NIP-05 doesn't make anyone depend on DNS or on the NIP-05 server owner, it's just a helper for finding and identifying public keys.

if the relay is doing the adaptive thing you could normally get away with a single click, but then as the spam goes up slightly the difficulty changes to 5 bits and I only need to try 18 times, which I can do in 5 seconds with my bare hands
