This #Damus story is dedicated on how I discovered #Bitcoin who has discovered it lately and early we are all here in this moment. My story begins in 2012, but unfortunately I didn’t know where to buy it and was a kid didn’t have any possibility to buy them and was living in Dublin. An ad on internet appeared mentioning Bitcoin. I was reading about it and one aspect that stood the most was the #decentralization of BTC. That’s what stood out to me, than I passively kept a watch on it.
Time past and in 2018 I found bitcoin back in the news when it dropped by 73% and while doing my masters I saw a YouTube video about 3 Chinese miners that had 3 building last full of ASICS just mining BTC. Back in the day my view was just about making money, I saw the importance of BTC but slightly more towards a monetary point of view and never saw it from a other perspectives such as supporting the Bitcoin Network, monetary independence and just some basic understanding of the financial world.
Between 2021 and 2023 my bitcoin knowledge improved, learning about ledgers, cold wallets, exchanges being dangerous towards bitcoiners but mainly towards crypto. In the sense that unregulated exchanges acted as banks playing around with people’s funds without consequences and how shitcoins (basically Ponzi schemes) were basically FIAT where anyone could create them at any time and have an infinite amount of market cap. I would say that perhaps in part to shitcoins and bitcoin it allowed me to fully understand the importance of a limited market cap and decentralization.
To conclude, if everything goes well I’ll become a Bitcoin miner this year as well.
