The Guru's Grace (spiritual teacher) is both external and internal. From the outside, he pushes the mind inwards, and from the inside he pulls the mind towards the Self and helps it keep quiet. That is the grace. There is no difference between God, guru and Self. A guru's help is necessary and useful to start you on the inquiry, but you yourself must pursue it.

He who is Purusha is also Prakriti; He who is Brahman is also Sakti. He is called Purusha or Brahman when He is inactive, that is to say, when He ceases to create, preserve, or destroy, and He is called Sakti or Prakriti when He engages in those activities. But He who is Brahman is none other than Sakti; He who is Purusha has verily become Prakriti. Water is water whether it moves or is still. A snake is a snake whether it wriggles along or stays still and coiled up.

You are always in Love, and you can only Love yourself,

the changless one in which even space is.

There is no beginning, no middle, and no end to it.

Only Love is worth loving and this is your own Self.

The whole universe is experienced in the consciousness "I Am".

If that is not there, what else can ever exist?

#SriNisargadattaMaharaj

GIVE YOUR MIND FULL ATTENTION

Q: I may go on telling myself: 'I am not the mind, I am not concerned with its problems,' but the mind remains and its problems remain just as they were. Now, please do not tell me that it is because I am not earnest enough and I should be more earnest! I know it and admit it and only ask you -- how is it done?

M: At least you are asking! Good enough, for a start. Go on pondering, wondering, being anxious to find a way. Be conscious of yourself, watch your mind, give it your full attention.

Don't look for quick results; there may be none within your noticing. Unknown to you, your psyche will undergo a change, there will be more clarity in your thinking, charity in your feeling, purity in your behavior. You need not aim at these -- you will witness the change all the same. For, what you are now is the result of inattention and what you become will be the fruit of attention.

#SriNisargadattaMaharaj

I see what you too could see, here and now, but for the wrong focus of your attention. You give no attention to your Self. Your mind is all with things, people and ideas, never with your Self. Bring your Self into focus, become aware of your own existence.

#SriNisargadattaMaharaj

The world recreates itself out of itself.

It is an endless process, the transitory begetting the transitory.

It is your ego that makes you think that there must be a doer.

You create a God to your own image, however dismal the image.

Through the film of your mind you project a world and also a God to give it a cause and a purpose.

It is all imagination

---- step out of it.

You don't need to worry. My teachings are already planted in your heart. They will sprout in due course. Simply have faith. There is no need to worry.

Each day you gain satisfaction by doing many activities, but this is not genuine happiness. The experience of inner freedom is true joy, a joy that does not depend on anything. Each day you get involved in various things to make life more tolerable, calling that state one of pleasure.

When such activities end, however, life is once again intolerable. Know that our true identity is the Self whose nature is authentic joy. The faithful enjoy this kind of happiness, and need not do anything else to attain satisfaction, for this joy is of the Self and is beyond bodily pleasure. The body needs attention and activities for pleasure, but That, which is joy itself, needs nothing at all.

Without body-mind

there is no experience at all.

Without mind there is no pain

and no need for any pleasure.

Without mind there is

no witnessing of anything.

In order to terminate the mind,

one has to worship the feet of the Guru.

Always be aware of your consciousness,

which is now listening.

It is the feet of Sadguru.

M: When you realise that the distinction between inner and outer is in the mind only, you are no longer afraid.

Q: Such realisation comes and goes with me.

I have not yet reached the immutability of absolute completeness.

M: Well, as long as you believe so, you must go on with your sadhana, to disperse the false idea of not being complete.

Sadhana removes the super-impositions.

When you realise yourself as less than a point in space and time, something too small to be cut and too short-lived to be killed, then, and then only, all fear goes.

When you are smaller than the point of a needle, then the needle cannot pierce you -- you pierce the needle!

#SriNisargadattaMaharaj

THE TASK SEEMS HOPELESS UNTIL SUDDENLY ALL BECOMES CLEAR AND SIMPLE AND SO WONDERFULLY EASY...

Q: The ‘I am’ is the foundation of all experience. What you are trying to describe must also be an experience, limited and transitory. You speak of yourself as immutable. I hear the sound of the word, I remember its dictionary meaning, but the experience of being immutable I do not have. How can I break through the barrier and know personally, intimately, what it means to be immutable?

Nisargadatta Maharaj: The word itself is the bridge. Remember it, think of it, explore it, go round it, look at it from all directions, dive into it with earnest perseverance: endure all delays and disappointments till suddenly the mind turns round, away from the word, towards the reality beyond the word.

It is like trying to find a person knowing his name only. A day comes when your enquiries bring you to him and the name becomes reality.

Words are valuable, for between the word and its meaning there is a link and if one investigates the word assiduously, one crosses beyond the concept into the experience at the root of it.

As a matter of fact, such repeated attempts to go beyond the words is called meditation. Sadhana is but a persistent attempt to cross over from the verbal to the non-verbal.

The task seems hopeless until suddenly all becomes clear and simple and so wonderfully easy.

But, as long as you are interested in your present way of living, you will shirk from the final leap into the unknown.

#SriNisargadattaMaharaj

True happiness cannot be found in things that change and pass away.

Pleasure and pain alternate inexorably.

Happiness comes from the self and can be found in the self only. Find your real self (swarupa) and all else will come with it.

If the unripe mind does not feel His Grace,

it does not mean God's Grace is absent.

#SriRamanaMaharshi

Disregarding one's superimposed attributes (upadhis) and knowing oneself is itself knowing God, since God shines as oneself.

#SriRamanaMaharshi

Mr. Ekanatha Rao: What is sphurana (a kind of indescribable but palpable sensation in the heart center)?

M.: Sphurana is felt on several occasions, such as in fear, excitement, etc. Although it is always and all over, yet it is felt at a particular center and on particular occasions. It is also associated with antecedent causes and confounded with the body. Whereas, it is all alone and pure; it is the Self. If the mind be fixed on the sphurana and one senses it continuously and automatically it is realization.

Again sphurana is the foretaste of Realization. It is pure. The subject and object proceed from it. If the man mistakes himself for the subject, objects must necessarily appear different from him. They are periodically withdrawn and projected, creating the world and the subject’s enjoyment of the same. If, on the other hand, the man feels himself to be the screen on which the subject and object are projected there can be no confusion, and he can remain watching their appearance and disappearance without any perturbation to the Self.

#SriRamanaMaharshi

A devotee who asked for Maharshi’s Grace and was told, “You have it”, felt a throb in the center of his chest, like a slight pressure; he felt happy and extraordinarily peaceful. He asked Maharshi about it later and Maharshi said, “Hold that sensation firmly whenever the mind is distracted. Your mantra-saying is no more necessary. It is called sphurana. It is felt on several occasions such as fear, excitement etc. It is really always there, felt at the heart center. It is associated with antecedent causes and usually confounded with the body. Really it is alone and pure; it is the Self. If the mind be fixed on it and the man senses it continuously and automatically, it is realization. For now it is a foretaste of realization.

Q: Does Bhagavan give diksha [initiation]?

Maharshi: Mouna [silence] is the best and the most potent diksha. That was practised by Sri Dakshinamurti. Initiation by touch, look, etc., are all of a lower order. Silent initiation changes the hearts of all.

Dakshinamurti observed silence when the disciples approached him. That is the highest form of initiation. It includes the other forms.

There must be subject-object relationship established in the other dikshas. First the subject must emanate and then the object.

Unless these two are there how is the one to look at the other or touch him? Mouna diksha is the most perfect; it comprises looking, touching and teaching. It will purify the individual in every way and establish him in the reality.

Knowledge means

the overcoming of obstacles which obstruct the revelation of the Eternal Truth

that the Self is the same as Brahman.

#SriRamanaMaharshi

The master is within; meditation is meant

to remove the ignorant idea that he is only outside.

The ego's death is the play of grace, the blossoming of bliss.
